On the 6th of October, Áine Gavin came to our classroom for a visit because we wanted to find out about school long ago.

First, we told her our names. Then, she told us about Lissycasey School long ago.

1. LissycaseySchoolused to have just three classrooms.

2. Each classroom had three windows.

3. Christina’s office was once used as a classroom!

4. The children here had to sit with their books on their knees.

5. The children sat at brown desks.

6. The teacher used a blackboard and chalk.

7. Bold children had to sit on a ‘naughty chair’.

8. The children didn’t have any uniforms.

9. One child got to ring the bell at the end of lunch.

10. When Ms Mc Sweeney’s room and the G.P. room were being built the children and teachers had to go to the building beside the G.A.A. pitch for school.

Next she told us about her school when she was young.

1. They walked to school.

2. They met their neighbours at the cross.

3. If they didn’t meet their neighbours, they left out a stone to show that they had already left.

4. They had a horse and trap.

5. There was a fireplace in the classroom.

6. The teacher put their bottles of milk in front of the fire.

7. They had no uniform.

After that, she showed us some pictures and we took a photo. Finally, she gave us some sweets and we said thank you.

It was really interesting. My favourite part was taking the photograph.

Welcome to 1st class. There are 11 girls and 6 boys in our class. We are happy to be back at school.
